My name is Dwayne Miller and i have been fishing island waterways for almost 35 years now,, with a fly exclusively for 22 years now. I started guiding for salmon and trout to make a little extra cash to support my "salmonbum" lifestyle but it didn't take long to realize that i enjoyed getting guys into fish and showing off my home waters and the species within. I soon realized that it was very fulfilling,, and also a lot of fun to spend a day on the water with total strangers guiding and teaching what i knew. Many of those people have become friends i wish i could see more of. Before family obligations took over I would regularly fish/guide 120 days per year and would chase salmon in every province except for newfoundland. I have fished in all but three provinces, for many different types of fish,, but always on the fly and always on a catch and release basis. A little personal information. I am 38 years old and am a 3rd generation lobsterman. I also fish for Giant Bluefin Tuna, Crab, and Mussels as well as other species throughout the year. My wife Claire, daughter Madison and son Chad are all very supportive and actively involved with my side-career. Over those 22 years and with almost 1000 salmon to hand i have yet to retain one. I am the odd duck in that i was a catch and release salmon fisherman before i was a salmon fisherman. My very first fish,, a kelt of about 10lbs was a life-altering moment,, and i knew i would never kill one of these beautiful creatures,, and furthermore, would do all i could to try to get this across to others.
